Kathmandu: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has begun preparations to operate the Sanjen Hydropower Plant in isolated mode to restore electricity supply in Rasuwa, where power services have been disrupted by recent flooding.
The authority is working to restore electricity in the affected areas of Rasuwa by operating the local power system independently from the national transmission grid. According to the NEA, necessary technical preparations are underway, and coordination is being carried out with relevant agencies.
To generate electricity from the Sanjen Hydropower Plant and connect it to the local distribution system, the plant’s machine password must be reset. For this purpose, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation is coordinating with the Chinese company concerned through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to obtain the required technical support.
If the necessary technical assistance is secured, the NEA aims to resume electricity service in Dhunche and other areas of Rasuwa by this evening.
For other flood-affected areas that cannot be immediately reconnected to the national grid, preparations are being made to provide electricity through alternative energy sources, including solar power, via the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC).
The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation stated that, alongside repairing flood-damaged power infrastructure and restoring regular electricity supply, it has adopted a strategy of mobilizing alternative energy sources to meet immediate power needs in affected areas.
