Kathmandu: The Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has launched an initiative to raise more than Rs 100 million (Rs 10 crore) for the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
IPPAN had initially decided to contribute Rs 50.55 million (Rs 5 crore 5 lakh 50 thousand) from its own resources. However, following generous support from private power producers during this time of disaster, a total of Rs 81.9 million (Rs 8 crore 19 lakh) has already been collected, according to IPPAN President Mohan Kumar Dangi.
President Dangi said IPPAN is working to increase the total contribution to more than Rs 100 million by Monday. The funds collected from private energy producers and businesspeople will be consolidated and handed over to the government to support relief and rescue efforts for disaster-affected citizens.
According to IPPAN, the collected amount will be formally presented to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund through the Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation at a special program on Monday, where a cheque and supporting vouchers will be handed over.
Private-sector energy producers have been mobilizing support for relief and rescue operations after the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River caused significant loss of life and property in districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading, while also affecting several hydropower projects.
IPPAN has also been actively involved in rescue and relief efforts for employees, workers, their families, and local residents in project areas affected by the disaster.
