Kathmandu: Construction of the 30 MW Super Seti Hydropower Project, currently under development in Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality of Kaski district, has started gaining momentum. Himalayan Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., the contractor awarded the project, has announced that it officially began construction work today. However, tunnel construction had already started earlier.
Laxman Khadka, director of the contractor company, said that construction of the powerhouse, penstock and dam area of the project, promoted by SN Energy Limited, officially began began on 29 October. He said the formal commencement of construction had been delayed due to difficulties in transporting construction materials and carrying out other activities during the monsoon season.
Although the construction contract was signed in October, work was moved forward only now, taking into account transportation challenges during the rainy season, he added.
Himalayan Infrastructure has previously completed the construction of five projects. The company said it has moved ahead with the Super Seti project with the target of completing construction within the stipulated timeframe.
The project has a construction period of three years. The company aims to begin electricity generation from Kartik 2084. If the planned capacity expansion is successful, the project will be able to generate additional electricity.
Neco Insurance holds a 20 percent equity stake in SN Energy Limited, the project’s promoter. Once completed and operational, the Super Seti Hydropower Project is expected to contribute to increasing Nepal’s electricity generation capacity and expanding private-sector investment in the hydropower sector.
