
Kathmandu: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has announced that electricity supply may be disrupted in various parts of Kathmandu for up to 11 days. According to the NEA, power services distributed through different feeders will be interrupted or affected as per a scheduled timetable from September 20 to September 30 due to technical works at the Teku Substation.
The technical work will be carried out by the Lapsiphedi and Changunarayan Substation Construction Project, which operates under the NEA’s Project Management Directorate. The project will undertake work on the 11 kV panel at the Teku Substation.
As part of the project, old relays installed in the 11 kV panel will be replaced with new ones. In addition, relay retrofitting, installation of a substation automation system, and related testing works will also be carried out.
During the maintenance period, feeders supplied by the 132 kV Teku Substation under various distribution centers will be affected. As a result, electricity service may be interrupted or impacted in several areas of Kathmandu served by those feeders.
The NEA stated that the duration of power outages will vary depending on the nature of the work and the feeders affected. Therefore, electricity will not be cut off simultaneously in all areas between Ashoj 4 and 14.
According to the authority, power supply to the relevant feeders will be shut down as required to facilitate the installation of new relays, retrofitting, and testing works. Apologizing for the inconvenience caused to consumers, the NEA has requested cooperation in completing the technical work within the scheduled timeframe.
The authority said that electricity supply in the affected areas will return to normal after the installation, retrofitting, and testing of the new relays and substation automation system are completed.
The NEA added that the upgrade is aimed at making the power system safer, more reliable, and more modern by replacing outdated equipment and relays at the substation with new technology.
