KAILALI, Oct 22: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the American aid project, Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC), will be passed by parliament. Speaking at a press conference in Dhangadhi after inspecting the disaster-struck regions in Sudurpaschim Province, PM Deuba said that the MCC will be passed by parliament as it will be under the purview of Nepal’s laws.
“The MCC will be passed; there is no need for making any amendments,” PM Deuba said. “In a scenario where Nepal receives loan assistance from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, international law is applied. In the case of MCC, they said that Nepal’s law will be followed,” he added.
Furthermore, PM Deuba said that the government will immediately look into distributing relief and reconstructing the infrastructures damaged by floods and landslides in the eastern and western regions of the country. “Sudurpaschim Province has recorded heavy loss and damages of lives, physical infrastructures, roads, crops, and farmlands,” PM Deuba said. “I have witnessed them all and will immediately bring forth relief packages for the victims,” he said.
PM Deuba has left for Kanchanpur to inspect the region following the floods in the region. He will be visiting Tikapur next.
