Apr. 14: Construction work on a dam has begun in Kothi Khola of Hariban Municipality-1, situated in the Chure area of Sarlahi district.

The dam has been constructed to provide irrigation facilities to local farmers by collecting wastewater from Kothi Khola, with the support of the President Chure Tarai Madhes Conservation Programme Implementation Unit in Janakpur.

After the completion of dam construction, there is a possibility of having a large wetland in the area, said Krishna Sah, Technical Officer of the Implementation Unit in Janakpur.

It is estimated that a 45-metre-long ‘RCB Harvesting Dam’ and a 30-metre ‘Arden Dam’ will be constructed, and there may be some adjustments during the construction process, Sah added.

The project was initiated through the local Consumer Committee, with an estimated cost of around Rs. 3.9 million, is set to be completed by June 21, 2023. The dam is named Run-of Harvesting Dam Kothi Khola.

Tam Bahadur Ghising, Ward Chairperson of Hariban Municipality-1, expressed happiness over the ongoing efforts, mentioning that the project was made possible by the Janakpur office of the President Chure Tarai Madhes Conservation Programme, Janakpur.

The Chairperson of Hariban Municipality, Ramesh Budhathoki, along with Vice Chair Hari Maya Ghale, and other ward chairpersons inspected the progress in dam construction work recently.

Once the dam construction is completed, plans have been made to further enhance activities such as swimming, fish farming, and other projects in addition to providing irrigation facilities to the local farmers, Ghising said.

Ghising had previously succeeded in providing water facilities to 45 households residing near the Chure Dam in Kothi Khola a year ago. He said that after successfully providing water facilities to the households, the plan is now to extend irrigation facilities to their fields.
