Construction of 43 MW Upper Nesham hydropower project begins

    Construction of the 43 megawatts Upper Nesham Hydropower Project has begun at Balefi along the Bramhayani corridor in Sindhupalchok district.

    According to project chairman Churna Prasad Shrestha, of the 34 kilometre access road to the project, 26 kilometre has already been completed. The powerhouse of the project will be constructed at Ambakharka of Jugal Rural Municipality-3.

    Sindhujwala Hydropower Ltd, the promoter of the project, has already signed the Power Purchase Agreement with Nepal Electricity Authority.  The project is estimated to cost Rs 6.6 billion.

    The project is expected to be completed by mid-June 2020. Managing Director of the Project, Badri Bahadur Karki, said that the project would distribute 10 per cent of the shares to the project-affected locals and 25 per cent to the general public.

    Upper Balefi (36 MW) and Balefi ‘A’ (10.6 MW) are also expected to start construction work soon, while the construction of 20 megawatts Lower Balefi is under way along the corridor.
