Chilime Hydropower Company Limited has bagged Quality Management System (QMS) and Environment Management System (EMS) awards from a UK-based International ISO certification Company.

In recognition of the company’s efficient management, BM TRADA RKCA, the UK international certifying company, honoured the public-private hydro-company with QMS ISO:9001:2008 and EMS ISO 14001:2004 awards at a programme here in the Capital today.

The company is the first in the category of hydro projects to receive awards from the UK certifying company.

FNCCI Energy Committee Chairperson, Gyanendra Lal Pradhan praised the company saying that it had stood as a ‘model’ company in the sector for private power producers in the country.

After the successful operation of the Chilime Hydropower (22.1 MW) project, four more projects are under construction, informed the company Chairman and NEA Managing Director Mahendra Lal Shrestha.

The projects are Sanjen Upper (14.8 MW), Sanjen (42.5 MW), Madhya Bhotekoshi (102 MW) and Rasuwagadhi (38.50 MW).

With its average capacity of 132 GW per hour, the company generated additional 17.8 GW per hour in the last fiscal thanks to efficient management of the power plant.

National Certification and Management-Nepal (NATCM- Nepal) is BM TRADA RKCA’s representative in Nepal. It was assigned to audit the company’s management and efficiency three years ago.

NATCM- Nepal Chairman Janardan Ghimire said that the award has added accountability in addition to the glory of the company.

At a time when independent power producers in the country are not doing very well, the company has given hope to millions of Nepalis living with power shortage, he said.

The company has also delivered a message to all power producers on preventing cost overruns, Energy Secretary Hari Ram Koirala said. He further shared his will to award Uttarganga Hydro Project (300 MW) to Chilime with the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The company has already bagged Hydropower Excellency Award from Nepal German Chamber of Commerce and Industries and National Best Presented Accounts Award, 2011 from Institutes of Chartered Accountants Nepal for the company’s efficient accounting system.
