Tunnel construction of Tanahu hydropower project is 75 percent complete

Tanahu, 12 July. About 75 percent of the construction of the tunnel to carry the water of the Tanahu hydropower project under construction here has been completed. Rajabhai Shilpakar, head of the Tanahu hydropower project, said that out of the 1,456 meters of tunnels that carry water, only 500 meters are left. A power house will be built by dropping water through this tunnel.

According to the project, the construction of the 626.92 meter long diversion tunnel required to divert the river to the place where the 140 meter high dam will be built has been completed. Shilpakar said that river water can be drained from the tunnel. He said that the diversion tunnel was built because the river water had to be diverted for the construction of the dam site. A diversion tunnel has been constructed on the surface of the river. The project completed the entry tunnel last January. The work of the 436 meter long and seven meter diameter entry tunnel leading from the left bank of the Seti River to the upper part of the proposed dam was completed. The tunnel leading to the dam through Beyas Municipality-5 Beteni will be used permanently even after the construction of the project is completed. After the construction of the project is completed, it will be possible to go to the dam through this tunnel. Under the first package of the project, structures including a 140-meter high dam, Song Da Corporation, Vietnam-Kalika Construction Pvt Ltd is being constructed by Nepal JV. Under which, for the construction of the main dam, the upper part of the dam and the slope digging work, the upgrading of the entrance road and other works are being done. The overall construction of this 140 megawatt hydropower project to be built in Rishing Rural Municipality-1 is targeted to be completed by June 2083.

Under the first package, structures including a 140-meter high dam, Song Da Corporation, Vietnam-Kalika Construction Pvt. The project is being constructed by Nepal JV. Under this, the construction of the diversion tunnel required to divert the river for the construction of the main dam has been completed. Excavation of the upper part of the dam and the slope, upgrading of the access road etc. are going on. According to the project, the construction of tunnels, power houses and other works are being done by Sino Hydro, China in the second package.

According to the project, the construction of 66 towers for the construction of the transmission line of Tanahu hydropower project under the third package has been completed. Shilpakar informed that the tower foundation work has reached its final stage. According to the project, 98 percent of the land in Tanahu and Chitwan, where the tower will be placed for the construction of the transmission line, has been determined and the distribution has been completed. According to the project, a double circuit transmission line of 220 KV will be constructed from Damauli to Bharatpur in Chitwan. According to the project, a total of 94 towers will be constructed for the construction of transmission lines. Indian company KEC has got the job of construction of transmission line.

A total of 59 plots of 923 ropani five annas land has been acquired for the construction of transmission line. The land belonging to Byas Municipality-13 and 14, Bandipur Rural Municipality-6, Ambukhaireni Rural Municipality-6, Devghat Rural Municipality-4 and 5 has been acquired towards Tanahu. The construction of the transmission line has been set to be completed by May 2022, but there has been some delay due to the delay in obtaining approval from the Ministry of Forestry due to the epidemic of Covid-19 and tree felling in the forest area.

For the first 10 years of the project’s electricity production, the annual average electricity production will be 587.7 million units, after which 489.99 million units will be produced. The total cost of the company’s capital structure and financial management project including 9 transmission lines, rural electrification and construction period interest is 0.55 million USD by ADB 150 million, Japan International Cooperation Agency [JICA] 180.4 million, and 85 million by the European Investment Bank. And the government of Nepal-Nepal Electricity Authority has been financially managed to bear 86 million dollars.
