Special Court seeks Rs 516 million bail from 18 NEA officials

    KATHMANDU, Sept 26:

    transformers_scam The Special Court has sought a bail of Rs 516 million from 18 Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) officials for involvement in procurement of substandard transformers.

    A bench comprising Chairman Kedar Prasad Chalise and members Mohan Raman Bhattarai and Bhupendra Prasad Rai on Thursday ordered the officials to deposit the bail amount after a hearing on whether or not they should be sent to judicial custody.

    The court asked former NEA managing director Jivendra Jha and general manager Yugal Kishor Sah to deposit Rs 20 million each. NEA Managing Director Rameshwar Yadav has been asked to deposit Rs 3 million. Similarly, the court has asked Suraj Prasad Sah, Ram Bijul Mandal, Binod Kumar Swarnakar, Manoj Baral and Nimesh Kumar Pokhrel to deposit Rs 1.5 million each as bail.

    NEA officials Harish Bahadur Pal, Mahesh Kumar Karki, Shashi Bikram Thapa and Kailash Prasad Atal have been asked to deposit Rs 150,000 each.
    Likewise, the court has asked Arjun Kumar Chauhan to deposit Rs 200,000 and Hari Bahadur GC, Narayan Prasad Chaudhari and Suresh Kumar Katuwal each to deposit Rs 100,000.

    Also, the court has asked Sushil Kumar Khanal to deposit Rs 50,000 and Saroj Shrestha Rs 25,000 as bail amount.
    The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has accused the NEA officials of procuring substandard transformers.
