A team of six lawmakers led by Rajan KC visited the project site and held interactions with the employees, locals and other stakeholders, said Project Chief Rajendra Manandhar.

With the disruption of the construction work, construction work of tunnel has been obstructed while the Chinese CGPC company has completed some 95 per cent construction works of the tunnel so far.

The project was scheduled to complete by 2011 but has remained in limbo due to various problems.

In the recent days, the construction period of the Chameliya Hydropower Project (30 Megawatts) was extended till March 2015.

However, the construction company, China Gejuwa Power Company, has said that it was delayed as the Nepal Electricity Authority delayed to release the budget on time.

The civil contractor Gejuwa has demanded Rs 1.2 billion in compensation. If the contractor was given the amount, the cost of per megawatt electricity from Chameliya could reach upto Rs 540 million, against the general cost of Rs 200 million.
