Myagdi: Electricity supply has resumed in all areas of Myagdi district affected by last month’s floods and landslides. The Nepal Electricity Authority’s (NEA) Beni and Tatopani Distribution Centers restored power services by repairing damaged transmission lines, branch lines and other infrastructure.

According to Satyanarayan Gami, chief of the Beni Distribution Center, electricity service resumed on Saturday in Poudwar, Annapurna Rural Municipality-5, the area hardest hit by the floods and landslides.

He said electricity supply had been restored in most areas within two to three days. However, repair work in Poudwar, Gibang and Kindu continued until late at night, even during the Dashain festival, with staff and workers deployed to complete the work.

“In some places, we have restored electricity supply through alternative routes and infrastructure. In the second phase, we are working to carry out further repairs and make the power supply more regular and reliable,” Gami said.

The floods and landslides damaged 250 poles and the wires strung between them along the NEA’s 33/11 kV transmission and distribution lines. The authority estimated the damage at around Rs 15 million.

Due to damage to the infrastructure, electricity supply to Ramche and Histan in Annapurna Rural Municipality had been disrupted. Power has now been supplied to these areas through an alternative route from Lekhphant in Jaljala Rural Municipality-5, Parbat district. Previously, electricity had been supplied to the areas via Mahabhir.

Similarly, Gami said electricity was supplied to Poudwar from Ghar after a transformer transported by helicopter failed to operate.

The Beni Distribution Center provides electricity to 24,490 customers, including residents of Mallaj and Waribeni in Jaljala Rural Municipality, Parbat district, through the Milanchowk Substation. The Tatopani Distribution Center supplies electricity to wards 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Annapurna Rural Municipality in Myagdi, as well as Mustang district.

With electricity services restored, daily life in rural areas affected by the floods and landslides has begun to return to normal. The NEA said it was proceeding with further repairs to damaged infrastructure to ensure a regular and reliable power supply.
