NEA Calls Hydropower Developers to Apply for RCOD Revision

Kathmandu: The Nepal Electricity Authority has called on private developers of various hydropower projects to come forward to revise their Required Commercial Operation Date (RCOD).

Through a public notice, the Authority has requested developers to appear with the necessary documents. According to the Authority, the decision follows its 688th board meeting held on September 16, 2014, which concluded that the transmission lines and substations mentioned in the Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and grid connection agreements with the private sector were not completed on time, necessitating a revision of the operation dates.

To apply for RCOD revision, projects must submit their generation license, proof of financial closure, and the application previously submitted to the Authority before the stipulated deadline. Additionally, details reflecting the project’s physical progress and alignment with the development status of transmission infrastructure are mandatory.

Private sector developers had long been demanding an extension of their project operation deadlines. Addressing this demand, the Authority stated that it has now formally initiated the revision process.
