Work on 237 MW Lower Badigad Hydropower Project Moves Ahead

Kathmandu — The Department of Electricity Development under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Government of Nepal, has issued a public notice for a public hearing program related to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report of the 237.2 MW Lower Badigad Reservoir Hydropower Project.

According to the notice, the proposed project will affect various local levels in Gulmi District of Lumbini Province and Baglung District of Gandaki Province. The department stated that public hearing programs have been scheduled at different locations and dates to collect suggestions and feedback from local stakeholders in the affected areas.

The public hearings will be conducted as per the scheduled dates, times, and venues. Local residents of the affected areas, elected representatives, concerned agencies, schools, health institutions, and representatives of community forest user groups have been requested to participate and provide their opinions, suggestions, and feedback.

The department has stated that the public hearings will begin from May 2, 2026 across various locations.

The notice clarifies that this is in accordance with the legal provisions under the Environment Protection Act, 2019 and the Environment Protection Rules, 2020, which require public hearings before the implementation of an EIA report.

In addition, individuals interested in obtaining further information or providing suggestions can contact the Department of Electricity Development at Sanogauchar, Kathmandu, or through the concerned consulting company.
