Energy Minister Shrestha Directs Deployment of Mechanical Crane to Improve Power Services in Karnali

To make electricity services in Karnali Province more reliable and efficient, a mechanical crane will be provided to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). The decision is expected to enable faster repair work and quicker restoration of power following outages.

During a field inspection in the second week of late June/early July this year, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha visited five districts across three provinces, including Karnali Province. During the visit, he was informed about the frequent power interruptions caused by line tripping in areas such as Surkhet, as well as the lack of a mechanical crane required for maintenance and repair work. At the time, the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Karnali Provincial Office drew the minister’s attention to the need for the necessary equipment.

Following the inspection, coordination was initiated at the minister’s direction. As a result, it has been decided that the mechanical crane currently stationed at the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Transformer Workshop in Kharipati will be dispatched to Karnali Province after completing the required procedures and servicing.

Until now, repair work on electrical equipment often required bringing a crane from other provinces, resulting in delays in restoring electricity services. With the necessary equipment now available within the province, maintenance work is expected to be carried out more quickly, the duration of power outages reduced, and overall service delivery made more effective.

The Ministry of Energy stated that it remains committed to addressing practical challenges faced at the local level, improving the quality of electricity services, and ensuring that citizens receive faster and more convenient service.
