BHULBHULE (Lamjung):
Construction works in the Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ Hydropower Project, which was stalled due to workers’ strike since last week, has resumed on Tuesday.
The works in the 50 megawatt hydropower project resumed today following an agreement reached among the political parties, administration and project management to resume the construction works.
Despite the efforts of the district administration and management committee to bring the disgruntled workers for talks, the agitating workers had been refusing to sit for talks unless their demands were fully addressed.
The project management has shown flexibility over some of the demands put forth by the workers including construction of motorway from power house to the dam area, ambulance facilities, and facility of insurance to the workers of the project, among others. However, the project has denied to pay the workers during the strike day as per no work, no pay concept.
The disgruntled workers have been demanding Rs 600 as daily wage of 8-hour duty, introduction of weekly leave and provident fund, among others.
Despite the commitment of the political parties to shun culture of bandh, dozens of such incidents were occurred this project that carries national significance in the hydro-power sector
