CIAAKATHMANDU, SEP 06 – The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has directed the Energy Ministry to take action against four officials at the Department of Electricity Development (DoED) and two of its former director generals in a case regarding the failure of 10 hydropower companies to operate the projects despite obtaining the permits years ago.

CIAA on Saturday instructed the ministry to initiate action against DoED Deputy Director General Sundar Shyam, its senior divisional engineers duo Ramesh Ratna Shrestha and Gokarna Raj Pantha, engineer Durga Narayan Bhusal, and former director generals Arun Kumar Upadhyay and Rabi Sharma.

These people were found guilty of breach of terms and conditions while issuing project operation licences to seven hydropower firms and survey permits to three electricity promotion companies, said Keshav Ghimire, CIAA’s assistant spokesperson. Only on Friday, CIAA had instructed the ministry to scrap the licences and permits of the hyrdopower companies in question.

Ghimire said it is up to the ministry to decide the nature of action against the party responsible in the case.
