All locals must get hydel shares: Pun

    Energy, Water Resource and Irrigation Minister Barsha Man Pun today claimed that the government would generate 3,000 MW electricity in five years under ‘people’s water, people’s investment’ campaign in the country.

    Inaugurating the orientation on share collection of Upper Tamakoshi Hydro power Project organised by District Coordination Committee in Dolakha today, Minister Pun said the government was preparing to generate 3,000 MW electricity in five years at a cost of Rs 6 billion.

    He claimed that the under-construction Upper Tamakoshi in Lamabagar of Dolakha would be completed within a year at all cost. Minister Pun claimed, “With the construction of the hydro power project, we will sell at least 100 MW electricity to India on the one hand, and on the other, the energy crisis in the country would also end.”

    Minister Pun also said that he would be coordinating with the ministry concerned for upgradation of the road along the Lamosaghu-Jiri road section so that it could contribute to the timely completion of the hydro project as well. He also stated that the government was carrying out necessary exercise for construction of Tamakoshi III and V hydro project.

    He said all Nepali citizens would be given opportunity to invest in hydro power projects owned by the government. Handing over the hydro power project share forms to chairperson of Ward No1 of Bigu Rural Municipality Hiranya Gurung and Ward No 9 Chairperson of Gauri Shankar Rural Municipality Tsering Sherpa, he urged them to include all the locals in the ownership of the project.

    Nepal Electricity Authority Executive Director Kulman Ghising warned that people might apply for shares by using others’ citizenship certificates.

    Application for ownership of 1.59 kitta shares of Upper Tamakoshi Hydro power project allotted to district denizens opened today.
