Dhorpatan: The 132 kV substation constructed in Burtibang, Baglung, has come into regular operation. The substation was completed on February 14 and tested on February 15 and 16; it has been fully operational since Tuesday.
Although the substation, built under the Nepal Electricity Authority, was planned to be operational a year ago, its launch was delayed due to local opposition in the Badigad Rural Municipality area of Baglung. The project was affected after locals obstructed tower construction and line expansion.
According to Project Chief Manoj Chaudhary, work to extend the transmission line from Motipur in Kapilvastu, through Sandhikharka in Arghakhanchi, Tamghas in Gulmi, and Paudi Amrai to Burtibang began on March 26, 2022. Although the target was to start operations from June 21, 2022, the project was delayed due to various obstructions.
The project faced roughly one and a half years of disruption after locals in Badigad filed a writ in the Supreme Court demanding a halt to tower construction. The Supreme Court dismissed the writ on June 23, 2022, after which the project advanced rapidly and was completed, Chief Chaudhary stated.
The substation built in Khaltubot, Dhorpatan Municipality–2, connects the hilly districts to the central transmission line. A double-circuit transmission line was extended over approximately 86 kilometers from Kapilvastu to Burtibang.
Completed at a cost of around NPR 479 crore, the project is expected to ensure reliable electricity supply in Baglung and surrounding hilly districts, resolve voltage issues, and support the expansion of industrial and economic activities.
