Kathmandu, Aug 30: Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Nepal, Rob Fenn, met with Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet on Wednesday.
The meeting that took place in the Ministry in Singha Durbar discussed various issues including the bilateral interests between the two countries, according to the minister’s secretariat. On the occasion, the minister said the diplomatic and friendly relations between Nepal and the UK would be further expanded.
Stating that the Government of Nepal had advanced with the short, medium and long term vision of the development of the energy sector, he sought support and assistance from the UK government in this regard.
Expressing gratitude to the UK government for providing support for a long time for the development of Nepal, Minister Basnet urged the country to continue its assistance in the days to come.
Praising Nepal for its significant achievements in the energy sector in recent days, Ambassador Fenn in return said the UK government was ready to cooperate with Nepal in development activities. He also stated that the UK and Nepal have shared age-old bilateral friendly relations and they would move ahead respecting each other’s common interests.
Others present on the occasion included the ministry’s Secretary Dinesh Kumar Ghimire, among others.
Prior to this, Zhao Liang, representative of the EXIM Bank of China, paid a courtesy call on the minister today itself. On the occasion, Minister Basnet thanked the Government of China and the Chinese side for their assistance in the development of the energy sector of Nepal. Likewise, the meeting discussed an array of issues including the expansion of additional assistance of China in the development of the energy sector of Nepal in the future, it has been said.
