Kulman Ghising, executive director of Nepal Electricity Authority, has said there will be no scheduled loadshedding in major towns like Kathmandu throughout Tihar, save intermittent interruptions arising from over consumption of power.

Despite overconsumption during Tihar, there will be no load-shedding as factories and industries will shut shop, Ghising said.

Ghising told Onlinekhabar he will not let there be power outage during the festival. He said: There will, however, be power outages lasting up to 30 minutes if the system fails to bear the pressure.

During Laxmi Puja (October 30), the demand will reach maximum of 13 MW, Ghising said. These days, weekly load-shedding lasts 35-42 hours. Tihar is the festival of lights, Ghising said, adding: We are very sensitive towards consumers’ sensitivities.

Ghising said he will control the load-dispatch system throughout Tihar.
