Tanahun, Aug 3rd. The work of Tanahun hydropower project of 140 megawatt capacity under construction is going on in full swing here. So far, about 40 percent of the project has been completed. Rajabhai Shilpkar, the head of the project, informed that the work is being done rapidly with the aim of completing it on time and 39.42 percent of the work has been completed so far.

Under the first package, structures including a 140-meter high dam were constructed by Song Da Corporation, Vietnam-Kalika Construction Pvt. Ltd. The project is being constructed by Nepal JV. Under this, the construction of the diversion tunnel required to divert the river for the construction of the main dam has been completed. Excavation of the upper part of the dam and the slope, upgrading of the access road etc. are going on. Shilpakar said that only 500 meters of the 1,456 meters of the main tunnel that carries water is left to be drilled. According to the project, the construction of tunnels, power houses and other works are being done by Sino Hydro, China in the second package.

According to the project, the construction of 69 towers for the construction of the transmission line of Tanahun hydropower project under the third package has been completed. Shilpakar informed that the tower foundation work has reached its final stage. Shilpakar said that the compensation for the land in Tanahun and Chitwan where the tower will be placed for the construction of the transmission line has been determined and distributed. According to the project, a double circuit transmission line of 220 KV will be constructed from Damauli to Bharatpur in Chitwan. According to the project, a total of 94 towers will be constructed for the construction of transmission lines. Indian company KEC has got the job of construction of transmission line.

A total of 59 plots of 923 ropani five annas land has been acquired for the construction of transmission lines. The land belonging to Byas Municipality-13 and 14, Bandipur Rural Municipality-6, Ambukhaireni Rural Municipality-6, Devghat Rural Municipality-4 and 5 has been acquired towards Tanahun. The total cost of the company’s capital structure and financial management project [including transmission line, rural electrification and interest during the construction period] for 505 million US dollars, ADB 150 million, Japan International Cooperation Agency [JICA] 184 million, European Investment Bank 80 billion 50 million and Government of Nepal. According to the project, Nepal Electricity Authority has spent 80.6 million dollars for the project.
