Kathmandu. The electricity service in the Walding and Bhirkot municipalities of Syangja, which was disrupted due to damage to a transformer caused by lightning, has been restored after approximately 65 hours. The secretariat of the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, played a coordinating role in restoring the service.

Approximately 13,000 service recipients (homes, health, communication, and other essential services) were affected by the power outage that began on Sunday morning. The secretariat became active as soon as the information was received by the ministry.

Electricity is supplied to the area through the distribution system of Butwal Power Company. Since it was estimated that it would take more than three weeks to repair the company’s transformer, an alternative measure was adopted. To solve the problem, a 3 MVA capacity transformer was brought from the Hetauda office of the Nepal Electricity Authority and installed in Syangja. The authority has provided the transformer on rent until the company’s transformer is fully repaired.

With the active participation of local residents, employees of the relevant branches of the Nepal Electricity Authority, and the technical team of Butwal Power Company, the service was restored in a short period during the emergency through inter-agency coordination.
