Kathmandu: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) offices across the country observed a moment of silence and lit candles in memory of those who lost their lives in the devastating flood that struck the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, along the Nepal-China border, on 26 August.
The tribute was held on the National Day of Mourning declared by the government to honor the victims of the disaster. A Cabinet meeting on 3 September had decided to observe national mourning on 7 September, the 13th day after the tragedy, as a mark of respect for those who died in the flood.
In line with the government’s decision, the NEA organized memorial programs at all its offices on 7 September.
Earlier, the authority had issued a notice directing all offices, including its headquarters, to observe silence, light candles, and pray for the eternal peace of the departed souls at 5:10 p.m. on Monday. Employees across the organization were also requested to participate in the program.
According to the NEA, tribute ceremonies featuring moments of silence and candle-lighting were held at its headquarters and offices nationwide in remembrance of the victims.
The authority also expressed wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured in the disaster.
The massive flood that swept through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors in Rasuwa caused significant loss of life and extensive damage to hydropower projects and electricity infrastructure. While rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts continue in the affected areas, the government designated the 13th day after the tragedy as a National Day of Mourning.
On the occasion, the Nepal Electricity Authority simultaneously organized memorial events at its offices across the country to honor those who lost their lives in the flood.
