Relief Operations Underway in Ilam as Minister Ghising Conducts Field Visit

Kathmandu, October 11 — Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, conducted an on-site inspection of the disaster-affected area in Ilam on Saturday and distributed relief to the victims.

Along with the minister, a team including Home Secretary Rameshwar Dangal, Physical Infrastructure and Transport Secretary Keshav Kumar Sharma, and Inspector General of Nepal Police Chandra Kuber Khapung conducted inspections of the affected areas and distributed relief to the victims.

While inspecting various sections of the Mechi Highway damaged by the heavy rainfall on 3, 4, and 5 October, Minister Kulman Ghising said that repair and reconstruction work is underway to reopen the highway as soon as possible. He also stated that post-disaster relief distribution and restoration efforts will be carried out with special priority, in coordination with all three levels of government.

Due to landslides, 26 households were displaced in Maitapu, Ward No. 10 of Ilam Municipality. While inspecting the temporary shelters of the displaced families and distributing relief, Minister Kulman Ghising said, “The government is with you, and the construction of permanent structures for resettlement will be promptly carried out.”
