Regional workshop on energy cooperation on Dec 12

    KATHANDU, Dec 9: Government officials, private sector representatives and experts of South Asian Associatoin of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries are to converge in Kathmandu on December 12 to discuss on issues of energy cooperation in the regional level as well as deliberate on climate change and water management issues.

    The participants include policymakers on energy, hydro power producers, investors, and water and climate change experts of the SAARC member countries.

    The Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), as a member of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is organizing the event in partnership with Independent Power Producers´ Assocation of Nepal and Friedrich Naumann Foundation — a German institution.

    The workshop titled ´International Consultative Workshop on Energy Cooperation, Climate Change and Water Management: Initiative for Regaional Integration´ will focus on mutual cooperation in energy production in regional level, according to a press statement issued by FNCCI on Monday.

    Minister for Energy Uma Kanta Jha will chair the workshop. Similarly, SAARC General-Secretary Ahmed Saleem, Chairman of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Vice-Chairman of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Pradip Kumar Shrestha, and Executive Director of PTC India Rajib K Mishra are scheduled to address the program.

    In the workshop, Habin Ur Rehman, managing director of BETA Pakistan, will present a paper on ´Current State of Energy Development in SAARC Region´. Similarly, Arjun Karki, managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority, will present a paper on ´The Concept of SAARC Energy Grid — Wow to Make it Funcational?´
