Kathmandu: Power generation from the 111 MW Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Plant, operated by Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Company Limited at Timure in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, Rasuwa District, has been completely suspended for 22 days.
According to the company, generation has been halted to complete the remaining restoration and reconstruction works required to ensure uninterrupted full-capacity operation during the upcoming monsoon season.
The company stated that most of the plant’s structures and electromechanical equipment were damaged by the massive glacial flood that struck on July 8, 2025. Following the disaster, partial restoration and reconstruction works were carried out, allowing all three generating units to resume electricity production.
However, the remaining restoration and reconstruction works need to be completed before the onset of the monsoon. As a result, power generation has been temporarily suspended. The company has already received approval from the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to shut down the plant from June 5 to June 27, 2026.
According to the company, the shutdown period may be revised depending on site conditions and the progress of the restoration works. Once the rehabilitation works are completed, the plant is expected to resume operation at full capacity.
