Kathmandu: The Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has announced that it will hold its 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and 8th Convention on June 12, 2026. The association currently has more than 700 member energy companies.

According to a press release issued by IPPAN, the 21st AGM held on June 15, 2023. formed a five-member Constitution Amendment and Redrafting Committee under the coordination of Bhanubhakta Pokharel. The committee submitted a draft report on June 12, 2025 proposing the transformation of IPPAN into a federation.

Subsequently, the 23rd AGM held on July 15, 2025, authorized the association’s president to implement the report. However, IPPAN stated that its 200th Executive Committee meeting held on April 17, 2026, decided to conduct the 24th AGM and 8th Convention under the existing IPPAN Constitution 2021.

Likewise, the 203rd Executive Committee meeting held on June 8, 2026, moved forward with proposed constitutional amendments, including the removal of the provision that automatically elevates the Senior Vice President to the position of President. The proposal also allows any eligible member who has served one term on the Executive Committee to contest for the presidency, while all other positions would be filled through open competition.

IPPAN stated that it aims to successfully conclude the convention through a democratic process and, if possible, unanimous consensus for all positions.

Meanwhile, IPPAN has objected to public statements made by Deputy General Secretary Prakash Chandra Dulal, who alleged that the association’s constitution had gone missing and that the AGM was being organized in violation of the constitution. IPPAN rejected the claims, describing them as “baseless and fabricated.”

According to the association, both the draft constitution amendment committee documents and the report remain safely stored at the secretariat, and no documents have been lost. IPPAN has urged energy entrepreneurs not to be misled by what it described as misinformation.

The association added that public notices regarding the AGM and convention had already been issued on May 23 and 24, 2026, and preparations are underway to hold the event as scheduled.
