KATHMANDU: In a significant step toward advancing Nepal’s green energy transition, the Centre for Rural Technology Nepal (CRT/N) and its consortium partners have officially launched a new initiative titled “Powering Nepal’s Green Industrial Future” (Power-GIF).
Supported by the Government of Norway, the project is designed to enhance the industrial utilization of renewable energy, particularly within the vital Birgunj-Simara industrial corridor, to foster sustainable economic development.
The initiative comes at a critical juncture as Nepal shifts its focus toward a green transition, prioritizing the creation of green jobs and leveraging its projected surplus electricity to power domestic industries.
By channeling clean energy into manufacturing and production sectors, the project aims to stimulate industrial growth while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The high-profile launch event was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), and the Confederation of Nepali Industries (CNI).
The collaboration underscores a deepening partnership between Norway and Nepal in the energy sector, reinforcing mutual commitments to sustainable infrastructure, climate resilience, and economic self-sufficiency through renewable resources.
