Nepal’s Sudurpaschim Province CM Heads Delegation Visit to NHPC Headquarters

In a major development to boost Indo-Nepal cooperation in the field of Renewable Energy development, a High-Level Delegation from Nepal led by Kamal Bahadur Shah, Chief Minister, Government of Sudurpaschim Province visited NHPC Corporate Office, a Navratna enterprise of Govt. of India on 1st May 2025.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamal Bahadur Shah, Chief Minister, Government of Sudurpaschim Province highlighted the importance of collaboration in renewable energy between India and Nepal reflecting a shared commitment for sustainable development and regional progress.

Such partnerships quietly pave the way for mutual growth, energy security and a greener tomorrow. In his address, R.K. Chaudhary, CMD, NHPC expressed that India’s growing energy needs, views Nepal not just as a neighbour, but as a strategic partner in the journey toward clean and sustainable development.

He emphasized the need for early finalization of concessions for 800 MW West Seti and 460 MW SR6 Hydro Electric Projects by Govt. of Nepal to ensure early start of their implementation.

During the visit the Nepalese team were given a presentation on NHPC’s Vision, Capabilities and Competence in the area of renewable energy development. Discussions were also held on India & Nepal Cooperation towards further development of renewable energy in both the countries.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Bir Bahadur Thapa, Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ghanashyam Chaudhary, Member of Provincial Assembly and the Leader of the Parliamentary Party, Naresh Shahi, Member of Provincial Assembly, Jhapat Saud, Member of Provincial Assembly, Dr. Kamal Prasad Pokhrel Sharma, Chief Secretary, Government of Sudurpaschim Province, Sher Bahadur Bhandari, Member, Policy and Planning Commission, Sudurpaschim, Surat Kumar Bam, Secretary for the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, Dr. Jitu Upadhyaya, Political Advisor of the Chief Minister, Ram Bahadur Bista, Private Secretary to the Chief Minister and Manoj Kumar Singh, Third Secretary, Embassy of Nepal, New Delhi.

Vikas Kumar Meena, Under Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India was also present. R.P. Goyal, Director (Finance), Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel), and Suprakash Adhikari, Director (Technical) alongwith Heads of various NHPC Divisions were also present on the occasion.

The delegation also visited the state of the art ‘Early Warning Monitoring Control Room’, ‘Real Time Generation Monitoring Centre’ and ‘Hydro Experience Centre’ established at NHPC Corporate Office.
