
KATHMANDU, Aug 22: Nepal’s per capita electricity consumption increased by 5.98 percent in the last fiscal year (FY 2025/26), according to the annual report of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
Per capita electricity consumption rose to 418.31 units from 394.69 units a year earlier, an increase of 23.62 units per person.
The NEA records show that the number of electricity consumers increased by 3.32 percent in FY 2025/26. The total number of electricity users reached more than 6.383 million, up from 6.178 million a year earlier. This represents an increase of 205,163 users in one year.
Of the total electricity users, 5.927 million receive electricity supplied by the NEA, while the remaining 456,476 households are served through community and rural electrification programs.
Over the past six years, the number of electricity users has increased significantly, rising from 4.528 million to more than 6.383 million.
According to the NEA, electricity sales also increased alongside the growth in the number of consumers. Electricity sales rose by 9.64 percent in the last fiscal year to 12.376 billion units, up from 11.288 billion units a year earlier.
