Nepal Oil Corporation Raises Fuel Prices Across Nepal

Kathmandu — The Nepal Oil Corporation has increased the prices of petroleum products. The new rates came into effect from 12:00 AM on Friday, raising the prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene, cooking LPG gas, and aviation fuel.

According to the decision of the corporation’s board, the price of petrol has been increased by NPR 17 per liter, while diesel and kerosene have each gone up by NPR 25 per liter. Similarly, cooking LPG gas has been increased by NPR 100 per cylinder, and domestic aviation fuel by NPR 6 per liter.

As per the new price list, in the Kathmandu Valley (third category), petrol now costs NPR 219 per liter, diesel and kerosene NPR 207 per liter, and LPG gas NPR 2,010 per cylinder. The price of domestic aviation fuel has been set at NPR 257 per liter.

According to the corporation, the adjustment was necessary due to the continuous rise in international petroleum prices, driven by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The statement also notes that even with a 50% waiver on customs duties and infrastructure development tax by the government, the corporation has not been able to reduce its losses.

Despite the price hike, the corporation claims it is still incurring a biweekly loss of approximately NPR 10.21 billion. Considering the challenging situation created by sudden increases in international prices, the corporation has urged consumers to use petroleum products more efficiently.
