
Kathmandu — The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to sign Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) for hydropower projects with a capacity of more than 10 megawatts. The Authority has issued a public notice inviting hydropower projects that had completed grid connection agreements by March 25, 2025, to come forward for signing PPAs.
The Authority has issued a notice for signing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for 1,858.919 megawatts of run-of-river (ROR) and 3,107.434 megawatts of peaking run-of-river (PROR) hydropower projects.
The decision to open PPAs was made during the 994th meeting of the NEA Board of Directors, held immediately after Hitendra Dev Shakya was appointed as the Managing Director of the Authority. According to the Energy Development Roadmap 2025, Nepal has set a target to reach a total installed electricity capacity of 28,500 megawatts by the year 2035. In line with this goal, the Board meeting held on March 25 decided to move forward with the PPA process for various types of hydropower projects with capacities of more than 10 megawatts that have already completed grid connection agreements.
