The Bheri-Babai Multipurpose Diversion Project, a National Pride initiative of Nepal, is making significant progress at its dam construction site located in Chiple, Bheriganga Municipality – 11, Surkhet. This project is one of the most ambitious undertakings in the country, aiming to boost hydropower generation and irrigation capacity in the region.
Situated amidst the verdant hills of western Nepal, the dam site is bustling with activity. Engineers and workers are striving to complete the key components of the diversion project, which involves channeling water from the Bheri River to the Babai River through a 12.2-kilometer tunnel. The project, upon completion, will generate 48 megawatts of electricity and irrigate approximately 51,000 hectares of farmland in Banke and Bardiya districts.
According to project officials, construction of the dam structure is advancing steadily with the deployment of modern equipment and techniques. Cranes, cement mixers, and scaffolding dominate the site as workers in safety gear work tirelessly to meet deadlines.
