Monsoon Boosts Power Generation at Lamjung Hydropower Projects

Lamjung: With the onset of the monsoon season, electricity generation from various hydropower projects in Lamjung has started to increase. Projects that had been generating below capacity during the winter due to water shortages are now operating close to full capacity as river and stream flows have risen.

The 70 MW Marsyangdi Hydropower Project, located at Dalal in Besishahar Municipality-1, has been generating electricity at full capacity for the past two weeks. During the winter, output had fallen to around 26–27 MW, but with sufficient water now flowing in the Marsyangdi River, the project has resumed full-scale generation of 70 MW.

Similarly, the 50 MW Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ Hydropower Project at Bhulbhule in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-8 has also been operating at full capacity for the past few days.

Power generation has also increased at several other projects in the district, including the 54 MW Super Dordi ‘B’, the 30 MW Nyadi Hydropower Project, the 27 MW Dordi Khola Hydropower Project, the 25 MW Upper Dordi ‘A’, the 12 MW Dordi-1, the 7 MW Upper Midim, the 5 MW Siuri Khola, and the 4.4 MW Radhi Khola projects.

Likewise, the Khudi Khola, Upper Chhandi Khola, Midim Khola, Upper Syange Khola, Chhandi Khola, and several micro-hydropower projects have also reported increased electricity generation.

Electricity generated from Lamjung’s hydropower projects is connected to the national transmission system. With water flow increasing during the monsoon season, higher power generation is expected to make a positive contribution to the country’s electricity supply.
