Kathmandu — Hitendra Dev Shakya, Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, has inspected the New Bharatpur 220 kV substation located in Bharatpur. On Monday, Shakya, along with Deputy Managing Director of the Authority’s Transmission Directorate, Rajan Dhakal, and a technical team, carried out the inspection.

Shakya instructed that the technical issues observed at the New Bharatpur substation be resolved as soon as possible in order to operate the Damauli–Bharatpur 132 kV line at full capacity. He also provided necessary technical advice during the visit.

The power transmission capacity of the Damauli–Bharatpur 132 kV transmission line was previously 70 megawatts. To increase this capacity to around 130 megawatts, the conductors were replaced. However, due to technical complications observed at the New Bharatpur 220 kV substation, the line could not be operated at full capacity.

Private power producers have been emphasizing that this line plays a crucial role in smoothly connecting the electricity generated from hydropower projects built in the Marsyangdi and Dordi corridors to the national transmission system. Therefore, Executive Director Shakya stated that it is essential to resolve the technical issues and operate the line in accordance with the increased power transmission capacity.

The Hetauda Grid Division has been instructed to complete the necessary work at the substation within a day or two. NEA spokesperson Dhakal informed that the issues seen in the substation and transmission line will be resolved, and all power plants and transmission lines will be operated at full capacity.
