Kathmandu: The 20-MW Langtang Khola Hydropower Project built in Rasuwa is now set to enter commercial production soon. Despite years of challenges caused by the COVID-19 lockdown, the project had been steadily progressing. After completing all technical tests, the project is now fully ready for electricity generation, according to the project’s operating company.

During the construction phase of the project, the transportation of materials, management of manpower, health and safety measures, financial management, and the complex hilly geography emerged as major challenges. However, through planned implementation, the continuous efforts of the technical team, and cooperation from the local level, the project was successfully completed according to the set targets.

According to the project engineers, during the test generation phase, all structures—including the turbine, generator, penstock, intake, headworks, and powerhouse—are operating smoothly. The electricity produced by the project will be transmitted to the national grid through the Trishuli–Kathmandu 220 kV transmission line.

It is expected that once the Langtang Khola Hydropower Project comes into commercial operation, it will also contribute to the economic and infrastructural development of the Rasuwa region.
