Kaligandaki ‘A’ Hydropower to Shut Down All Three Units for Maintenance from May 8

Kathmandu: The 144 MW Kaligandaki ‘A’ Hydropower Station has announced that cleaning and routine maintenance work will begin from the evening of May 8. Due to the maintenance, all three power-generating units of the plant will be completely shut down.

According to the station, water entering the powerhouse will be diverted through the tunnel during the maintenance period, which starts at 5:00 PM, while all dam gates will be opened. As a result, the flow of water in the Kaligandaki River is expected to increase compared to normal conditions, and the river level may temporarily rise.

As the river flow could increase suddenly, the concerned authorities have urged residents living near the riverbanks, contractors, and the general public to move construction materials, equipment, and other belongings to safer locations.

Likewise, people have been specially requested to avoid unnecessary movement near the riverbanks during the maintenance period. The station has urged all stakeholders to take necessary precautions considering the possible
