Jhimruk Hydro power project resumed after 10 days

    Jhimruk hydropower projectKATHMANDU: The Jhimruk Hydro power project which was shut since January 7 resumed yesterday after the Energy Ministry decided to form separate task forces to assess the loss caused by agitating locals and to sort out their problems.

    The meeting held between Butwal Power Company, owner of the project, and Energy Secretary Hari Ram Koirala yesterday decided to send a task force to the power house in Pyuthan to assess loss of property and another task force including local political party leaders to sort out problems.

    The first task force will submit its report within a week and the other task force within thirty days.

    The meeting also decided to include NEA officials in the task forces. An agitated group of local residents had vandalised the hydro project office damaging property worth millions.  They had forced the staff at the project to shut down the plant and flee, said Bishnu Prasad Shrestha, senior manager of BPC.

    “Preliminary investigation puts the loss at millions of rupees due to the emergency shutdown. Various stores had also been gutted in an arson attack carried out by locals. The loss of revenue in ten days will be considered by the government as per the agreement,” Shrestha told this daily.
    Protesting the six-hour load shedding in the area, locals had vandalised the hydro project and set various stores on fire.

    १० दिनपछि विद्युत् सुचारु

    उपभोक्ताले क्षति पुर्‍याएपछि अवरुद्ध भएको विद्युत् १० दिनपछि बुधबार सुचारु भएको छ । सरकारले लोडसेडिङ गरेपछि प्यूठानस्थित झिमरुक जलविद्युत् केन्द्रमाथि सयौंको संख्यामा भेला भएका उपभोक्ताले २३ पुसमा आक्रमण गरेर करोडौंको नोक्सानी पुर्‍याएका थिए । सरकारले क्षतिपूर्ति नदिएको, ऊर्जा मन्त्रालयले अनुगमन नगरेको र सुरक्षाको प्रत्याभूति नभएको भन्दै योजना सञ्चालक संस्था बुटवल पावर कम्पनी -बीपीसी) का कर्मचारीले काम रोकेपछि विद्युत् पूर्ण रूपमा अवरुद्ध भएको थियो । लामो समय विद्युत् अवरुद्ध भएकाले प्रधानमन्त्री बाबुराम भट्टराईले सरकारले क्षतिपूर्ति दिने बताएपछि बीपीसीले विद्युत् सुचारु गरेको हो ।
