
Kathmandu — An international conference and exhibition has started in Kathmandu with the aim of promoting the latest technologies in fire risk reduction and electrical safety. Experts from 14 countries are participating in the international conference organized by the Asia Pacific Security Association (APSA).
The ‘Fire Safety and Electronic Security International Conference’ organized by Nepal started on Sunday. The two-day conference is being attended by experts from Nepal, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Minister for Forests and Environment, Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, stated that Nepal has suffered significant damage to forests and various structures due to fires, and efforts are being made to prevent such issues through modern technology. “The Nepal government has given importance to the risks of fire and has been working on it, but still, the only option available to the government is fire trucks,” he said. “We hope that this conference will provide much assistance in understanding what can be done to reduce fire risks in the context of Nepal. Many initiatives are being taken by the government of Nepal, local governments, and provincial governments to reduce risks.”
Every year, Nepal faces recurring fire incidents that result in widespread loss of life and property, and such conferences are essential and effective, stated APSA President Sunil Kumar Shrestha. According to the program director, Suresh Shrestha, the conference will play a significant role in improving Nepal’s security policies.
The conference is attended by representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Urban Development, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army, representatives from 753 local levels, entrepreneurs and businesspeople from the private sector, as well as experts in security and fire risk reduction.
