Although preparations are underway to welcome Modi in October, the exact date of his visit has not been finalised yet.

It is learnt that Modi is visiting Nepal to inaugurate the Arun III hydro project being constructed under the investment of Indian government.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, during his five-day state visit to India in August, had invited his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to visit Nepal to inaugurate the construction of Arun III hydro project.

Nepali Ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhyay has said that India is working to finalise the date for Modi’s Nepal visit.

During the visit, Modi and Nepali Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will jointly lay the foundation stone for the construction of 900 megawatt Arun III Hydropower Project. The project is being constructed by Indian developer Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited at an estimated cost of Rs 104 billion.

Nepal will get 198 megawatt of electricity free of cost from the project.

This will be the third visit of the Indian prime minister to Nepal. Earlier, he had visited Nepal in August 2014 soon after taking the helm of Indian premiership and later in November during the 18th Saarc Summit.

Modi’s visit this time has been looked with importance as Nepal-India relations has improved after it reached to the lowest following a blockade imposed by India in 2015.
