
Sankhuwasabha – A high-level delegation from the Government of India conducted an on-site inspection of the under-construction 900 MW Arun III Hydropower Project in Sankhuwasabha District.
The inspection was carried out by a delegation led by Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Government of India, at the project being developed by SJVN Arun III Power Development Company.
During the visit, the delegation inspected the underground powerhouse at Pukhuwa in Chichila Rural Municipality and the dam site at Phaksinda in Makalu Rural Municipality.
The team reviewed the progress of civil and electro-mechanical works, including the dam, intake system, and other infrastructure, and received updates on the project’s implementation status and upcoming work plans.
At a review meeting held after the inspection, Secretary Agarwal expressed satisfaction with the significant progress achieved despite the challenges of constructing the project in a remote Himalayan region.
He instructed the concerned authorities to maintain high construction quality, prioritize safety standards and environmental sustainability, and ensure the project is completed within the scheduled timeframe.
The visiting delegation included Naveen Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Nepal; Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairman of the Central Electricity Authority of India; Diwakar Nath Mishra, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Power; Joint Secretary Pankaj Kumar; Rajesh Kumar Chandel, Director (Projects) at SJVN; along with senior officials from the Indian Embassy and the Ministry of Power.
On the occasion, Pankaj Chaudhary, Chief Executive Officer of SJVN Arun III Power Development Company, briefed the delegation on the project’s construction packages, resettlement and rehabilitation programs, community development initiatives, and environmental management efforts.
