KATHMANDU, Feb 22: The central transmission line of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has seen an increase of five megawatts more electricity from Saturday.
The increment is an immediate result of the start of the test production by the Upper Hugdi Hydro Power Project which has the capacity of producing five megawatts of energy. The project is the first public-private partnership (PPP) in the country.
The promoter of the project has stated that the test production started four months before the schedule so as to support the initiative to resolve the energy crisis in the country.
The project under the public-private partnership was developed with a total of Rs 770 million, said Paritosh Poudel, Secretary of the project company.
As per the power trade agreement reached between the Project and the NEA, the company will charge Rs 7.50 per unit in the dry season and Rs 4.50 per unit during monsoon. The electricity will be provided to the NEA free of cost for the first 15 days after production. The project will also issue shares to the local and the public in future.
The project developed by Ruru Hydro Power Project has the highest number of investors till date with 862 investors. The project with the Power House at Khasimara of Rupakot in Gulmi is an exemplary model of a project in Nepal.
The electricity produced from the project has been linked to the NEA´s substation at Birbas of Gulmi through a 12 km long transmission line. The Kumari Bank, Machapuchre Bank, Vibor Bikash Bank and Century Bank have invested under the leadership of Clean Energy Development Bank whereas the promoter has invested Rs 275 million.
