Kathmandu: The 5 MW Sangu (Sorun) Khola Hydropower Project, constructed in Dolakha district, has successfully completed its operational testing. With the successful completion of the testing phase, the project has entered the final stage of preparations to commence commercial operation.
According to the developer, Kalinchok Hydropower Limited, all technical tests, including those of the project’s turbines, generators, control systems, safety equipment, and synchronization with the national transmission system, were successfully completed during the operational testing.
The company stated that reaching this milestone was the result of the collective efforts of all stakeholders. It credited the dedication, hard work, and coordination of the consultant, construction company, engineers, technicians, employees, and everyone directly and indirectly involved in the project for making this achievement possible.
The project, located in Dolakha district, is a run-of-river hydropower scheme. It is expected to generate approximately 29.72 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually. The generated electricity will be evacuated into the national grid through a 132 kV transmission line.
The company has also initiated the process of issuing an Initial Public Offering (IPO) to project-affected local residents of Dolakha. Following the successful operational testing, the project will complete the remaining technical and administrative procedures before officially entering commercial operation. The electricity generated by the project is expected to add more clean energy to the national grid, helping meet the country’s growing electricity demand and strengthening Nepal’s energy security.
