CHITWAN, July 27: Electricity supply will be disrupted for six hours today in western Chitwan and Madi areas, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Chanauli Distribution Center.
The outage is due to a sharp rise in power demand amid rising temperatures and the peak irrigation season, especially in the absence of rainfall. The NEA released a schedule detailing the planned cuts, with three hours of outage in the morning and three more in the afternoon.
Raj Kumar Shrestha, head of the Chanauli Distribution Center, said the 33 kV DOG conductor lines from the 132/33 kV substation cannot safely handle more than 300 amperes. However, current demand has surged to over 450 amperes, requiring immediate load management.
Electricity will be cut off in the Narayani–Madi, Meghauli–Bijaynagar–Shukranagar, and Jagatpur–Rampur feeders under Chanauli’s jurisdiction.
According to Jitendra Kumar Jha, head of the NEA Bagmati Provincial Division, the high load has exceeded the capacity of the conductors. A new 33 kV transmission line is under construction to supply power from another substation in the future as a long-term solution.
As per the NEA’s schedule:
Narayani–Madi feeders: 6:00–9:00 AM and 3:00–6:00 PM
Meghauli–Bijaynagar–Shukranagar feeders: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM and 6:00–9:00 PM
Jagatpur–Rampur feeders: 12:00–3:00 PM and 9:00 PM–12:00 AM
