
Kathmandu – Ruling UML MP Devi Prakash Bhattachan has questioned Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli about when the work on the 828 MW Uttarganga Reservoir Hydropower Project will start.
During the question-and-answer session with the Prime Minister at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday, MP Bhattachan said, ‘When will the plan to produce a total of 1726 megawatts from the Uttarganga Reservoir-based hydropower project in Baglung and provide 100 percent production in winter start?’ He demanded an answer from the Prime Minister.
In response to MP Bhattachan’s question, Prime Minister Oli said that NE Engineering Company of Nepal Electricity Authority is reviewing the feasibility study report. The prime minister said that after receiving the final report from the company, the construction and investment modality will be finalized and the project will be completed within the next 4 years.
“Uttaraganga Power Company Limited was established in 2074 to develop the project and the work has been progressed. So far, the feasibility study and environmental impact assessment of the project has been approved by the Ministry of Forests and Environment,” said the Prime Minister. An application has been submitted to the Development Department.’
Member of Parliament Bhattachan also questioned the government’s plan to discuss and pass the bill, as the bill submitted to the Parliament for the operation of Nepali cargo ships on international sea routes has been stalled for the past 4 years.
In response, Prime Minister Oli informed that the bill to amend and unify the laws related to the operation and management of watercraft is in the process of being submitted to the parliament. He informed that it has been approved by the Council of Ministers for submission to Parliament on June 27 and is in the process of submission to Parliament.
