Rasuwa. The electricity service in this district, which was interrupted due to lightning, has been restored. Lightning strikes on Saturday afternoon damaged ‘transformer’ equipment installed in various parts of the district.
The Nepal Electricity Authority branch stated that the service was resumed immediately after replacing the damaged equipment. According to Kumar Ghale, the technical chief of the Authority, four transformers were damaged by the lightning. Power supply was initiated after installing new transformers from stock.
The transformers damaged by lightning were located in Majhgaon of Uttargaya Rural Municipality, Sapche in Dhunche under Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, Bahungdanda Goljung of Aama Chhodingmo Rural Municipality, and the old Tatopani area. The power service in Dhunche was also affected due to the transformer damage.
The Authority stated that there are approximately 10,600 electricity consumers in the district. Branch Chief Gunzman Tamang informed that personnel were immediately mobilized for transformer repair. He mentioned that it was challenging to deploy technicians to all locations simultaneously when the problem occurred across the district at once.
Although the district is a hub for electricity generation, continuous power supply has not been possible. The old problem of intermittent power outages still persists. The transmission lines for electricity service in the Timure, Rasuwagadhi, Khaidi, and Thuman areas have been expanded through the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project.
The Authority has stated that necessary equipment for emergency situations is kept in stock. Branch Chief Tamang said that preparations are always in place to quickly resume electricity service during disasters. Electricity tariffs amounting to about NPR 15 million are collected monthly in the district.
