KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has brought into operation a new 33/11 kV, 6/8 MVA substation constructed at Pansera in Khadak Municipality, Saptari. According to the NEA, the substation, which came into operation on Wednesday evening, will directly benefit around 15,000 electricity consumers in Khadak and Surunga municipalities.
Built at a cost of approximately NPR 120 million, the project also included the construction of a 10-kilometer 11 kV distribution line. With the substation now operational, the quality of electricity supply is expected to improve in areas including Kadmaha, Lalpati, and Kalyanpur in Khadak and Surunga municipalities.
According to the NEA, the new substation will help address long-standing issues in the area, including low voltage, frequent line tripping, and power supply interruptions. It is also expected to improve the voltage profile, enabling consumers to receive a more stable, reliable, and higher-quality electricity supply.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said the commissioning of the new substation marks an important achievement in improving the quality of electricity services in Madhesh Province. He added that, alongside increasing electricity generation, the government is giving high priority to modernizing, securing, and strengthening the country’s transmission and distribution systems.
As electricity demand has continued to rise across various districts of Madhesh Province in recent years, the NEA has been implementing programs to strengthen the distribution network through the construction of new substations, expansion of distribution lines, and capacity enhancement. According to the Authority, such infrastructure expansion is expected to improve the reliability of electricity supply while providing better-quality service to residential, commercial, and industrial consumers.
