Kathmandu — The construction of the 132 kV double circuit transmission line from Dhalkebar in Dhanusha to Loharpatti in Mahottari has been completed. The Dhalkebar–Loharpatti transmission line and the Loharpatti 132 kV substation have been completed and brought into operation (charged) from Wednesday.

The project was constructed with an investment of approximately 1.13 billion rupees from the government and the Nepal Electricity Authority to improve the electricity supply system in Dhanusha and Mahottari, manage the increasing demand for electricity, and make the supply more reliable and of higher quality. The length of the double circuit transmission line is 23 kilometers, and 91 towers have been constructed for the transmission line.

The substation houses two power transformers with a capacity of 132/33 kV, 30 MVA each, and one transformer with a capacity of 132/11 kV, 22.5 MVA. The overall capacity of the substation is 82.5 MVA.

Once electricity supply starts from the substation, around 150,000 customers, primarily under the Janakpur, Jaleshwar, Gaushala, and Yadukuwa distribution centers, will benefit. According to Munindra Thakur, the Director of the Authority’s Madhesh Regional Office, issues such as reduced voltage, frequent power interruptions (tripping), and electricity leakage in the region will be minimized, leading to an overall sufficient, reliable, and high-quality electricity supply.

Previously, electricity in that area was being supplied from Dhalkebar via Mujeliya in Janakpur. Due to the long distance and insufficient capacity of the line, there were issues such as low voltage and tripping.

The infrastructure has been designed to allow for the creation of four 33 kV feeders for local electricity supply. Out of these, two 33 kV feeders will be used to supply electricity to the Jaleshwar area, one to the Gaushala area, and one to the Janakpur area. Among these, one feeder towards Janakpur has been completed and is currently in operation.

Arrangements have been made to create four 11 kV feeder lines to supply electricity to the area around the Loharpatti substation. Among these, two feeders have been completed and brought into operation. The transmission line project was initiated approximately three years ago.
