Kathmandu: Nabil Bank Limited has achieved final success in the counter guarantee dispute related to the Trishuli Hydropower Company Limited project from a Chinese court.
The Chongqing Higher People’s Court of China has ruled in favor of Nabil Bank, and the bank has stated that it has received an amount equivalent to 7.449 million US dollars for four bank guarantees.
After the cancellation of the Trishuli 3B Hydropower Project contract, China Everbright Bank (Chengdu Branch) had refused to pay the counter guarantee issued by the Chinese construction company Suifa ANHE Group. Nabil Bank, on the other hand, had already paid the guarantee amount to Trishuli Hydropower Company as per its obligations.
After this, Nabil Bank filed a case in a Chinese court. Although the verdict was in favor of Nabil Bank in January 2024, the construction company appealed. Finally, on September 23, 2025, the High Court also ruled in favor of Nabil Bank.
Trishuli Hydropower Company had signed a contract agreement with Suifa ANHE Group on 14th March 2018. After the construction work was not completed within the stipulated time, the contract was cancelled on 16th December 2023 and the bank guarantee was forfeited.
